Sam began studying classical piano at age 7, and took up jazz not long after that. He has been playing both ever since, with each tradition influencing the other in his music. His arrangements for small ensembles and big bands bring a fresh perspective to jazz standards. And his compositions sparkle with originality.
Yulsman has played with many jazz veterans, including renown trumpeter Roy Hargrove, saxophonist Steve Wilson, multi-reed instrumentalist John Gunther, trumpeter Greg Gisbert, and Charmaine Neville (at Snug Harbor, New Orleans’Äô premiere jazz club). He has played at the Mile High, Telluride and Vail jazz festivals, as well as others. He is a member of the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts. And he has been recognized with awards and honors including acceptance into the prestigious Brubeck Summer Jazz Colony in 2006. He lives in Niwot, Colorado, where he is a junior in high school.
